How Junk Filter handles data.

Junk Filter is independently operated by Jean Borremans in Belgium. Contact the person responsible for your data at [email protected]. Core brand filtering needs no account. We do not sell personal data or use extension browsing information for advertising.

Local filtering and browser permissions

The extension reads product information on supported marketplace pages to label, fade or hide brands. Filter settings and personal brand lists use browser extension storage; your browser may sync these with your browser profile. Junk Filter does not receive your personal brand lists.

Website access lets the extension recognise supported shopping pages and apply your filters. You can manage this access, or disable or remove the extension, in your browser’s extension settings. The in-extension filter switch controls filtering; it does not disable all network requests.

Product data and service requests

Junk Filter has used product research to supplement its database with Amazon product and brand information. This research is currently inactive.

Existing extension versions may still send service requests containing product details, a visited domain or full URL (including query parameters and fragments), extension version and a random installation identifier. Our service discards these request bodies without reading or storing them. Public brand-list updates and reports you choose to submit are handled separately, as described below.

Previously collected URL records are retained for up to 24 hours, product-research records for up to 30 days, and hashed installation identifiers for up to 180 days of inactivity. These records expire automatically.

Public updates and reports you choose to send

The extension may check once a day for a public brand list or marketplace configuration; you can also request an update in settings. Those requests do not require your visited shopping page or search query. The bundled list works when an update is unavailable.

A brand report you submit includes the brand, local verdict, optionally the product identifier, marketplace and extension version. Written feedback is sent only after you choose to submit it. This includes an uninstall reason and optional explanation submitted through our uninstall page; the page receives the extension version but no installation identifier. We use reports to review classifications and respond to problems, not for advertising. Reports and correspondence are retained while needed to investigate and maintain accurate classifications; you can contact us to request deletion of personal information you included.

Community voting and alternatives

Voting uses a necessary random browser cookie, jf_community_id, lasting up to one year. A one-way hash associates votes with that browser to limit repeat votes. This identifies a browser rather than a person. Votes remain while the community feature needs them; public results show totals. Contact us if you need help accessing or deleting a vote.

When you choose “Find Quality Alternatives,” its link can include the product identifier, title, brand and marketplace. The website uses these to suggest relevant categories. Choosing an alternative can generate an aggregate daily count by category, brand and country. Retailer links may include disclosed affiliate tags; Junk Filter may earn a commission. You choose whether to follow a retailer link.

With your optional measurement consent, PostHog receives page views, extension-store clicks, observed onboarding visits, successful community votes and uninstall feedback categories. Explicit campaign labels can be remembered in your browser for up to 30 days. We do not send advertising click identifiers, feedback text, account names or emails to PostHog. Page addresses exclude query parameters and fragments. Session recordings and automatic click tracking are disabled, and admin pages are excluded. Our PostHog project is hosted in the United States. Cookies and optional measurement

Necessary cookies support community voting and remember your cookie choice. The jf_marketing_consent cookie remembers acceptance or rejection for up to 180 days. You can withdraw a previous choice by clearing the site data for junk-filter.com in your browser. Refusing optional measurement does not affect filtering, downloads or access to the website.

Only after you accept optional measurement does PostHog receive the events described above. On the hosted onboarding page, the X base conversion tag with Pixel ID rehad can also load and our server can send an install conversion to X. It is not loaded or sent from other website pages. Junk Filter does not load Google Ads or Meta Pixel scripts.

The server-side install conversion contains a random conversion identifier, the onboarding page address, conversion time, IP address and browser user agent. We do not add an email address, phone number or account identifier. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals keep optional measurement off. Withdrawing consent clears optional measurement data stored in your browser and reloads the page. Withdrawal stops future PostHog and X measurement; it does not undo data already sent with your consent. X may receive technical request information and handle it under X’s privacy policy.

Service providers and legal grounds

Our website is hosted through OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare. Hosting providers necessarily receive network information such as IP address, requested service URL and user agent to deliver and secure requests, to operate the service. Provider infrastructure logs have their own retention policies. Access is limited to operating, securing and supporting the service.

We rely on our legitimate interests in providing a reliable service, preventing abuse and maintaining classifications for necessary operational processing. Optional PostHog measurement relies on your consent. We process correspondence you send to handle your request and comply with applicable obligations. Providers may process information outside the EEA; applicable transfer safeguards depend on their service terms and arrangements. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your request.

Your choices and rights

You may request access, correction, erasure or restriction of your personal data, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and request portability where applicable. You can withdraw consent at any time. We may need limited information to locate pseudonymous records or verify a request. You can complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority.
